Vulcan
- The foundation was laid for the Town of Vulcan in 1910 when the Canadian Pacific Railway moved into the area.
By 1911, the first train had arrived and there was a population of 29 with 14 thriving businesses. By 1913, the
population had grown to nearly 500 and more than 40 businesses were present, it was in this year that the village was able to incorporate.
- The Town of Vulcan was originally named after the Roman God of Fire and Forge by a Canadian Pacific Rail surveyor in the early 1900's. While surveying the area, he discovered that Vulcan was at the highest elevation on the CP rail line at the time. He saw the town as being the most prosperous along the rail line and Vulcan was born.
- At one time Vulcan had more grain elevators than any other location west of Winnipeg. The famous “Nine in a Line” is etched into Vulcan’s history. For over 50 years nine elevators, each with annexes, stood proud in the Vulcan skyline.
-Today, Vulcan County produces over 261,000 tonnes of wheat, barely, and other products which are shipped to nearly 70 countries worldwide.
