Mr. Nimoy will be arriving in Vulcan for a private tour of the
Vulcan Tourism & Trek Station at around 2:30PM
At 3PM a parade-style procession will make it's way from the
Vulcan Tourism & Trek Station into downtown Vulcan.
A special stage will be set up in downtown Vulcan where Mr. Nimoy will be able to address the crowd, unveil a bronze bust of Mr. Spock that the town has commissioned in his honour and leave behind his famous Vulcan "Live Long and Prosper" hand sign that will later be immortalized in bronze for all to see. In the event of severely inclement weather, the stage will be set up at the Vulcan Curling Rink.
Immediately following the stage event, Mr. Nimoy will be returning to Calgary to prepare for his appearance at the
Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo on April 24 and 25.
Personal autograph and photograph opportunities with Mr. Nimoy will be offered exclusively at the
Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo event in Calgary.
Before leaving Vulcan, Mr. Nimoy will loan the town 2 unique items from his personal memorabilia collection: an official Original Series cast portrait, autographed by all of the original cast members; AND the original ears he wore when portraying Spock in the original series. These items will be on display at the Vulcan Tourism & Trek Station for one year, starting at 4:30PM April 23, 2010.
The Vulcan Tourism & Trek Station will be open to the public from 9am to 12:30PM, then from 4:30PM to 6PM on April 23. (We want all of our staff to be able to watch the parade and downtown festivities as well).
Other events that will be taking place in Vulcan on April 23 include:
12 noon - 2pm ATB will be hosting a COMMUNITY BBQ with proceeds going to support the Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary. Regional Vice President Rob Smith will be on hand flipping burgers for the cause.
5pm - midnight watch a Star Trek movie marathon at the Vulcan Lodge Hall. See: Star Trek IV, Star Trek VI and Star Trek 2009. Proceeds from this fun movie night will go towards supporting the Vulcan Recreation Boards Arts and Culture programming.
