Important dates in the history of Vulcan, Alberta and Star Trek

September 8, 1966 – Star Trek first airs on TV, and the world is introduced to the crew of the USS Enterprise. The influence of westerns on Gene Roddenberry’s original concept for Star Trek can be seen in the series’ opening narration, “Space, the final frontier…” Roddenberry described Star Trek to network executives as “Wagon Train to the stars”.
June 2, 1969 - The final episode of the original Star Trek Series airs. The show is cancelled because of poor ratings.
1990 – A group of local residents (and Star Trek enthusiasts) comes together to brainstorm ways to encourage economic growth in Vulcan. The Vulcan Association of Science & Trek is formed. Vulcan Ears become the official souvenir of this community.

Late 1990s – The Vulcan Town Council dons their first Starfleet Uniforms.

1993 – Vulcan hosts its first Star Trek Convention: VulCON 1.

1995 – The Vulcan Starship FX6-1995-A is unveiled at the entrance to town.

1998 – The Vulcan Tourism & Trek Station celebrates its Grand Opening in the company of Members of the Alberta Legislature, Earthlings, Starfleet Officers and Ambassadors from the Vulcan and Klingon Empires.

2000 – Vulcan opens its space themed water park by the Lions Community Pool Complex.

August 1, 2004 - The Vulcan Tourism & Trek Station hosts it's first interplanetary event - a Klingon Wedding
2007 – The Vulcan Tourism & Trek Station proudly launches the Vulcan Space Adventure Virtual Reality Game to give visitors the chance to train with "Starflight Academy", and to save the Earth from Alien Invaders.
2008 - Vulcan launches an ambitious campaign to host the World Premiere of Star Trek XI for its May 2009 release.
2008 - Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry Jr., son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, unveils a memorial tribute to his father during the VulCON 2008: Spock Days/Galaxyfest celebrations.
2008 - His Majesty King Abdullah Il, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (a Star Trek Fan) sent his greetings to the Town of Vulcan, Alberta
May 6, 2009 - Vulcan was denied the World Premier of Star Trek XI, but 300 lucky Vulcan County residents got their own prescreening two days before the official release date with all expenses paid by Paramount Pictures at the Scotiabank Theatre at Chinook Mall in Calgary.

Winter 2010 - Vulcan, Alberta becomes recognized as the "Official Star Trek Capital of Canada"
April 23, 2010 - Actor Leonard Nimoy beamed into Vulcan for a special appearance courtesy of the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo. While in Vulcan, Mr. Nimoy unveiled a bronze bust of Mr. Spock that the town commissioned in his honour, and left behind his "Live Long and Prosper" handsign that will be immortalized in bronze.
June 11 & 12, 2010 - Vulcan's 17th Annual Spock Days and Galaxyfest community-wide Star Trek convention will feature actor Tim Russ.
Beyond 2010…… Alien species continue to monitor the evolution of life on Earth in search of intelligent life and Warp Capability before making their highly anticipated "official" first contact with us.
